About

I am Bert Boute, PhD.

Belgian industrial designer, explorer and outdoor enthusiast. Based in British Columbia, Canada.

After graduating as an Industrial Engineer and Industrial Designer at Ghent University, he started his PhD. in Industrial Design & Medical Device Development at Ghent University and the Ghent University Hospital. During his PhD, he was developing more prototypes than writing papers, since this was the foundation of his research; developing medical devices through iterative prototyping and the integration of every stakeholder. Therefor, he gained a lot of hands-on, multidisciplinary experience in addition to the academic and research skills acquired.

Having Finished his PhD, he started traveling around the world on his motorcycle since 2019. When the Pandemic hit, Bert was stuck in Australia and not able to return home. Nevertheless, he found several design oriented jobs in Australia, which could further fund and accomplish his journey.

With a multidisciplinar background and hands on approach, Bert loves to tackle complex design projects. His past experiences were focused on R&D, concept exploration, medical device development, mechanical engineering, user-centred design and research & teaching.

When designing, Bert believes in a hands-on, iterative prototyping process, with a focus on user-centred design. This enables fast feedback to every stakeholder and fulfils the user needs & requirements early in the design process.

Wether it is related to industrial design, sports & outdoor products or medical design & healthcare, Bert is always motivated for new and challenging design projects.
