Modular Head Rest

This modular head rest was developed for the Ghent University Hospital as part of the prone breast couch project. To be able to have a natural position when the head is frontally positioned, an anatomical study was performed since we wanted the cervical vertebrae to be inline with the thoracic vertebrae and un-loaded.

Iterative Approach

When designing the head rest module, we integrated the end-users early on in the design process. Through this user-centred approach, we were able to make quick iterations. Subsequently, we were able to easily optimise patient’s comfort without big time- and resource investments.

Fit For All

No single person is the same, nor are their heads. The head module needed to be adjustable and comfortable, yet easy to operate by the dedicated nurses. Several head support cushions are available for different head shapes.
